 Высушенный сок p. lamb. представляет собой сахаристое вещество, напоминающее манну. Небольшое количество его (кусочек размером с горошину на чайную ложку) оказывает выраженное послабляющее действие, особенно сильное при приеме больших доз. Оно также влияет на менструальный цикл, восстанавливая менструации в случае их подавления, и вызывает выкидыш у беременных.
